As we describe on the Services, Security Advice page, the world to the Professional Mariner is still a dangerous place. Piracy and armed attacks take place on a far more regular basis than is necessarily announced in the media. Ships of all shapes and sizes are regularly hijacked with crew taken hostage or robbed. The Captain holds the responsibility for the safety of his or her crew and as such will have enough on their plate when the ship is programmed to transit a high risk area without having to worry about the now more than necessary precautions to keep a good lookout and put additional measures in place. |
