Providing Intelligence to the Professional Mariner

As we describe on the Services, Security Advice page, the world to the Professional Mariner is still a dangerous place.  Piracy and armed attacks take place on a far more regular basis than is necessarily announced in the media.  Ships of all shapes and sizes are regularly hijacked with crew taken hostage or robbed.

The Captain holds the responsibility for the safety of his or her crew and as such will have enough on their plate when the ship is programmed to transit a high risk area without having to worry about the now more than necessary precautions to keep a good lookout and put additional measures in place.

  

 

Attitude of the crew can have a big impact on whether a vessel is put at a greater risk of being attacked and as such various companies have sprung up to provide personnel who will embark to provide a 'security' detail on board a transiting ship.  The arguments as to whether these personnel should be armed or un-armed is one that rages on and not something we get involved in directly, however another way to help the Captain and crew fight the potential for being attacked comes in the form of intelligence.
